A RULE OF THUMB There is no definitive rule when it comes to how much wine, beer or spirits you need for a particular event; however, as a general rule, consider one drink per person per hour.
People tend to drink more at the beginning of an event, but consume less as the event goes on.
SOME WINE GUIDELINES FOR EVENTS Consider two things when planning an event – trends and the type of event. Certain drinks gain more popularity over time and during different seasons, such as gin, beer and coolers in the summer, rum, brandy and liqueurs in the winter.
What’s even more important is the type of event you’re hosting:

DID YOU KNOW? A drink is a drink is a drink. A mixed drink with 1.5 oz. of spirits contains the same amount of alcohol as 12 oz. of beer or 5 oz. of wine.
KEEP YOUR SPIRITS UP Think three drinks per person for an evening where spirits are served. A 750 mL bottle yields 15 to 17 drinks. Remember, you need at least three similarly sized bottles of mix per bottle of spirit.
